Leadership Development: Bold leaders creating “we’re great” teams.
The BP refinery in Grangemouth, Scotland, was at the bottom of the scale in workplace safety, labour relations and profitability. There had been serious injuries on site, they had not turned a profit in years and management and the unions did not have a workable relationship. Things were so bad that it was rumored in the UK media that the refinery and supporting businesses were destined to be shut down.
We delivered leadership development programs for site leadership, middle managers and supervisory staff. We supported the creation of projects in each major area, and coached each project lead until significant gains had been made.
After 18 months, the refinery generated unprecedented results. It turned a profit for the first time in 15 years, safety performance improved by 300% and labour relations improved immeasurably. Instead of being the worst unit in the group, the facility was being used to demonstrate how quickly and dramatically improved performance could be attained. ?
