Pre-condition
A Canadian manufacturer of major appliances was bought out by a large American Conglomerate. In order to gain a competitive advantage over other manufacturers, the Marketing department saw an opportunity to design and manufacture an entirely new kitchen appliance. It was imperative this new appliance got to market quickly.
Issue
The Marketing department believes that they have just 18 months before their off shore competition will have a similar product available at a lower cost on the market. When the design engineers were asked to design and get the product into production within 18 months they said, “It is impossible – we have never brought a new product from concept to market in less than 3 years! It can’t be done!”
Objective
Bring the marketing department and the design engineers together to create one high performing team. Design a “Performance Leap” project where performance promises are based on the future the group is committed to, not on the history of product development.
Results
The new product was brought to market in a record-breaking 13 months.
